Archipelago New York is a modern day exploration by sailboat into the vast Island world of New York. I started this journey several years ago and since then I have sailed more than 3000 nautical miles. I was often asked what a modern day exploration actually is and how one can explore a very well documented territory. The answer is simply that every exploration starts with a set of questions and with each new question exploring starts anew. When I set out to sail this territory I wanted to find out how history had shaped the region, who the people were who had lived here before we called this New York and what happened to them. Above all I wanted to find out how finding the answers to those questions would change me. So my journey more and more turned into an inner journey in quest of identity and sense of place.
